University Bridging Program
Description
Duration
- Prepares student to study full-time and succeed at a Canadian university or college
- For students who are taking one credit course from our partner institutions and would like to develop sophisticated fluency and written English skills
- Students will learn how to
- Research, organize and write university research papers
- Recognize and avoid plagiarism
- Take notes from lectures and participate in seminars and tutorials
- Adapt to university culture and meet academic expectations
- Use strategies for teamwork in an academic environment
- Think critically and make strong arguments
- Research, prepare and deliver a presentation
- Understand and apply strategies for time management and studying at a university level
- Program qualifies students to enter many of ALCC’s partner universities or colleges full-time without taking the TOEFL / IELTS exam
- $500 scholarship to university or college awarded to students who achieve an A grade (85%) or higher
- The complete University Bridging Program is 14 weeks
- Students may study up to a maximum of two times to pass the UBP, unless special cirumstances warrant an extension
- Beginner students will start in General English and continue into English for Academic Purposes program and then University Bridging Program
- Students successfully completing the English for Academic Purposes Program will naturally progress into the University Bridging Program without TEOFL/IELTS
- Students tested at an advanced level or with an official IELTS score of 5.5, TOEFL score of 70 (or equivalent) and higher may qualify to enter the University Bridging Program immediately
- Students successfully completing the University Bridging Program will be permitted to study full-time at our partner Universities without TEOFL / IELTS
