General ESL Program

Description

Beginner students will start in the General English core course. The General English program uses a unique integrated skills approach with a focus on all aspects of the English language including: speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and idioms.

After completing General English, a student will naturally progress into our English for Academic Purposes program.

Duration
  • Each term of General English is 8 weeks long
  • Students may study for as many terms as required to pass the course
  • The minimum course length needed to pass one level is 4 weeks (e.g. students cannot pass if they join past the 4 week point of the course)
Requirements
  • Students will take written and oral placement tests on the first day to determine English level
  • Students tested at Beginner level will be placed in General English first and then progress into English for Academic Purposes courses
  • Students tested at low Intermediate and above will be immediately placed into one of the five levels of EAP courses
