Watercolour Painting
Just in time for Mother’s Day, ALCC was lucky to have local artist, Helen Lee, return to teach our current students and staff about watercolour painting. Helen immigrated to Halifax in 2011 to study art, has participated in many art competitions, and has been the recipient of many awards, with her paintings inspired by Nova Scotia’s natural beauty. Be sure to check our some of her amazing art on Instagram!

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is a fortress overlooking downtown Halifax. Originally established by the British in 1749 to defend against potential French attacks, it served as a military stronghold during the War of 1812, and both World Wars. Today, it stands as a “living” museum, offering guided tours led by knowledgeable costumed interpreters. ALCC students and staff learned a lot about what military life was like in the 19th-century.

Victoria Day
Victoria Day is a Canadian public holiday celebrated on the Monday preceding May 25th, in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. It also marks the beginning of the summer season in Canada, and is often associated with parades and outdoor activities. First observed in 1845, the holiday celebrates historical and modern Canadian identity. This month, our students learned a little bit about how Queen Victoria is connected to Canada.
