April Fool's Day

April Fool's Day, celebrated on April 1st, is a lighthearted tradition where people play harmless pranks and practical jokes on each other. The origins of the holiday are unclear, but it has been observed for centuries in various cultures. Whether it's swapping sugar with salt or creating an elaborate hoax, the day is all about laughter and surprise. This April Fool’s Day, our teacher Miranda tried to fool us with a sudden change of hair color!

Fairy Doors

Nova Scotia has a lot of Scottish heritage, and some of it includes superstitions. Early settlers in Nova Scotia believed in fairies, and that they were to blame for misfortune and trouble within their home. This belief evolved into the creation of fairy doors, often placed in gardens, to encourage fairies to help the garden grow instead of causing mischief for people. This month, our students had the opportunity to craft fairy doors of their own for good luck!

Easter Egg Painting

The tradition of painting Easter eggs dates back thousands of years, with origins rooted in ancient cultures, and has evolved into a creative and festive tradition enjoyed by people of all ages. Although real eggs are used traditionally, today families and their children, as well as artists, use plastic and wooden eggs for long-lasting decorations. Our students enjoyed trying their hand at this popular spring activity!

Pier 21 Immigration Museum

The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, located in downtown Halifax on the historic waterfront, is a valuable tribute to Canada's rich immigration history. From 1928 to 1971, nearly one million immigrants passed through this gateway, making it the last surviving seaport immigration facility in the country. Today, the museum offers its visitors immersive exhibits which chronicle over 400 years of immigration narratives.
