Port Hood
Port Hood is a vibrant seaside community on the West coast of Cape Breton Island, located on the Ceilidh Trail, about 30 minutes from the Canso Causeway. Vision Boards
With the start of a new school year, ALCC students took the time to visualize their hopes, goals, and desires in terms of English achievements and their time here in Halifax. Some common themes included: making Canadian friends, trying some Canadian holiday traditions (such as carving Jack-o-lanterns at Halloween), becoming more confident with speaking English, and visiting more scenic and historical sites in Nova Scotia.

Halifax Waterfront & Cow’s Ice Cream
We wanted to take advantage of what’s left of the good weather, so ALCC students and teachers took an outdoor lunchtime excursion! There’s lots to do and explore at the Halifax waterfront, and one popular destination in particular is Cow’s Ice Cream. For some of our students, this was their first time trying this famous Maritime ice cream, and they weren’t disappointed!

Alderney Landing
Buses are efficient, but nothing beats the view from Halifax harbour! ALCC took an afternoon trip to Dartmouth on the ferry to explore and learn about the Alderney Landing Ferry Terminal. With a library, a playground, and a small farmers market on Wednesdays and weekends, Alderney Landing is a community staple! Luckily for us, it’s only a fifteen minute boat ride from downtown Halifax.

Bouquets
ALCC teachers endeavor to make lessons relevant and interesting for our students, so we try to incorporate their interests and much as possible. Our GEP A students particularly enjoy gardening, so they made their very own bouquets in class, and learned some new, relevant garden and flower-related vocabulary and English expressions in the process. There is no limit to how fun language learning can be!
