February In Review

NSCC Information Session
Ever wonder where our UBP graduates go after their time with us here at ALCC? Nova Scotia Community College is one of the many post-secondary institutions for our students’ career goals! From culinary arts to marine navigation, NSCC offers over a hundred certificate and diploma programs all over the province, ranging from eighteen weeks to three years in duration. We were lucky to have Meghan provide insight for our students about all the career paths they can find at NSCC!

Mooseheads Hockey Game
ALCC students, staff, and families joined CBBC this month for an exciting evening watching a Halifax Mooseheads Hockey game! Although our local team might not be as well-known as others throughout Canada, many of its players do go on to successfully play hockey on other professional teams! Among these talented athletes are Nathan MacKinnon, Nikolaj Ehlers, Timo Meier, and Nico Hischier. Win or lose, there is no shortage of excitement at a live hockey game!

Heritage Day
Every year, on the third Monday in February, Nova Scotia celebrates Heritage Day: a holiday honouring different people, places, and events that all play a part in Nova Scotia’s rich and diverse history. This year’s honouree was Senator Joseph William Comeau, an Acadian educator, entrepreneur, legislator, and Senator from Digby, NS. He is recognized for his advocacy for Acadian language, culture, and education. ALCC students learned all about this honouree, among many more!

Chinese Paper Cutting
Invented more than 1,500 years ago, Chinese paper cutting is an ancient art that involves using scissors or knives to create intricate designs out of red paper. Our very own ALCC alumni, Liping, happens to be an expert at this delicate art, and guided our current students in making their own designs. There is no shortage of creativity among our students, past and current!
