NOVA SCOTIA SPOTLIGHT
Nova Scotia's "Stone Henge"
Have you ever wanted to visit Stone Henge, but felt discouraged by the cost of traveling to the U.K.? Then you’ll be happy to learn you need not travel further than Wallace, N.S. for a similar experience! This homage to one of Europe’s most mysterious places was built by a local resident in the early 2000s, so while it may not be as mysterious as the original it imitates, it serves as an interesting local landmark! Although it is located on private property near Wallace River in Cumberland County, it is clearly visible from the roadside.

April In Review

ALCC 2nd Annual Spring Fling
This past month, ALCC was happy to celebrate its second annual Spring Fling with staff, students, and community members alike. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect over intriguing trivia and riddles, delicious baked goods and handmade items, carnival games, and prizes! We are thrilled for everyone who attended or simply stopped by to say hello, and celebrated the coming of good weather. We hope to keep this new tradition going for years to come!

CBBC Info Session
Where do you go after ALCC? Our UBP graduates who wish to stay local are eligible to apply to CBBC! This April, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to learn what CBBC has to offer our language grads... which is a lot! With five campuses located throughout Nova Scotia, CBBC prepares students for real jobs that are currently in demand within local communities. From careers in hair and aesthetics, education, business, and healthcare, CBBC offers practical skills training for the job you want!

Pier 21 Museum of Immigration
The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is Canada’s national museum of immigration, and lucky for us, it happens to be located here in Halifax! Pier 21 was our former ocean liner terminal and immigration shed from 1928 until 1971, and inside the museum, visitors can hear countless immigration stories (past and present), learn about the hardships of moving to a foreign country in the past, and gain an understanding of why so many immigrants haven chosen Canada as their home.

Fairy Doors
Have you ever walked through Nova Scotia neighbourhoods in the spring and noticed tiny doors sitting near the bases of trees? This month, ALCC students learned about the history of fairy doors in Nova Scotia, and even tried their hand at making their own! Whether or not you believe in fairies, these cute, doll-sized crafts make a statement at any home, and are a fun spring tradition to participate in alone, or with your family!
