June Spotlight

NOVA SCOTIA SPOTLIGHT
Cape Blombidon
Did you know that the world’s highest tides can be found right here in Nova Scotia? One of the places you can watch them from is the stunning, high cliffs of Cape Blombidon. Protected by Blombidon provincial park, the cape is comprised primarily of sedimentary sandstone, which gives the cliffs their unique reddish color. Beyond the cliffs, there’s opportunity for hiking, camping, photography and more as the area has a variety of natural features and wildlife.

May In Review

Mother's Day Watercolour Painting
Just in time for Mother’s Day, our students were joined by local artist Helen Lee for a masterclass in watercolour painting. In this workshop, Helen guided us through the steps of watercolour from mixing paints to proper brushstroke techniques. By the end, our students had made beautiful cards for Mother’s Day. What better way to celebrate the mother figure in your life than to give them something thoughtful and handmade?

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, located in downtown Halifax, is the largest art museum in Atlantic Canada. Our students had a wonderful time on their latest excursion, where they perused artwork by local, national, and international artists. However, the exhibit that captured their imagination the most was that of Nova Scotia’s own Maude Lewis!

Kite Making
Our final week of May was unfortunately quite a rainy one... but, hey, that’s sometimes how it goes in Nova Scotia! Here at ALCC, we didn’t let the weather get us down. We looked forward and manifested sunny days to come by making kites in anticipation of a beautiful summer.
If you go to Citadel Hill or the Halifax Commons this summer, you’ll be sure to find our students and their families flying the kites they made here.

Newcomer Night
Our Newcomer Night is held on the first Monday of each month and offers a welcoming space to socialise, network, and connect with both newcomers and local residents alike. It’s a great opportunity to build community, enjoy some snacks and refreshments and share conversation.
Join us at our next Newcomer Night — we’d love to see you there!
